Quick actions

One-click transforms applied to the input text.

A line break remover joins hard-wrapped lines, removes stray newlines, and cleans up paragraphs copied from PDFs, emails, or word processors. It is essential when you need continuous flowing text for fields that do not accept line breaks.

All processing happens inside your browser — your text is never uploaded, stored, or tracked.

How to remove line breaks

  1. Paste your text into the input box on the left.
  2. Choose a mode — join with a space, comma, custom separator, or remove all breaks.
  3. The cleaned result appears live in the right-hand box.
  4. Toggle options like Trim each line or Remove carriage returns as needed.
  5. Use Copy to copy the result, Download to save it, or Swap to send it back to the input.

Line break modes explained

Different tasks need different treatment of line breaks. This tool offers six modes:

ModeWhat it doesExample
Join with spaceReplaces each line break with a single space, producing one continuous paragraph"a\nb" → "a b"
Join with commaReplaces each line break with ", " so items become a comma-separated list"a\nb" → "a, b"
Join with custom separatorReplaces each line break with a separator you choose"a\nb" with " | " → "a | b"
Remove all line breaksDeletes line breaks entirely, joining words directly"a\nb" → "ab"
Collapse blank lines onlyKeeps single line breaks but reduces 2+ consecutive breaks to one blank line"a\n\n\nb" → "a\n\nb"
Keep line breaksLeaves line breaks untouched — useful for comparing options side by side"a\nb" → "a\nb"

LF, CRLF, and carriage returns

Different operating systems use different line endings. Unix and Linux use a single LF (\n), while Windows uses CRLF (\r\n). Older Mac files use CR (\r). When you paste text from different sources, mixed line endings can cause odd behaviour in downstream tools.

The Remove carriage returns (CR) option strips the extra \r characters so your text uses clean LF line endings. This is especially useful when pasting from Windows documents into web forms or code editors.

Common use cases

  • Fixing PDF copy. Text extracted from PDFs often has a line break after every line — join them into proper paragraphs.
  • Cleaning email quotes. Quoted replies accumulate hard returns and indentation that need collapsing.
  • Preparing for CSV. Join lines with commas to turn a list into comma-separated values.
  • Form fields. Some inputs reject line breaks — remove them before pasting.
  • Removing extra blank lines. Collapse multiple blank lines into a single paragraph break.

Frequently asked questions

Is this line break remover free?

Yes. The tool is completely free, requires no account, and has no advertisements.

Is my text stored or uploaded?

No. All cleanup happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page loads, every feature works without an internet connection.

What is the difference between LF and CRLF?

LF (\n) is a single line feed character used by Unix and Linux. CRLF (\r\n) is a carriage return followed by a line feed, used by Windows. This tool can strip the extra carriage return so your text uses consistent LF endings.

Will joining lines change my word count?

Joining with a space keeps the word count the same. Removing all line breaks can merge two words if a line ends without a trailing space, so check the result. The stats panel shows the before and after word counts.

Can I keep paragraph breaks but remove single line breaks?

Yes. Choose Collapse blank lines only to keep intentional paragraph breaks while reducing multiple blank lines. If you want to join single lines but keep paragraphs, combine Join with space with your own manual paragraph markers.

What does "Trim each line" do?

It removes leading and trailing whitespace from every line before joining. This prevents double spaces at join points and cleans up indentation.

What does "Swap" do?

It copies the cleaned result back into the input box, so you can apply another mode or combine with other tools.
