A text reverser flips text so it reads backwards — either by reversing every character, reversing word order, or reversing line order. It is useful for puzzles, testing, stylised social posts, and checking palindrome properties.

All processing happens inside your browser — your text is never uploaded, stored, or tracked.

How to use this text reverser

  1. Type or paste your text into the input box on the left.
  2. Choose a reversal mode — characters, words, lines, or a custom separator.
  3. The reversed result appears live in the right-hand box.
  4. Use Copy to copy the result, Download to save it, or Swap to send it back to the input.
  5. Toggle options like Keep sentence punctuation or Trim whitespace as needed.

Reversal modes explained

Different tasks need different kinds of reversal. This tool offers six modes so you can pick the right one:

ModeWhat it doesExample
Reverse all charactersFlips the entire text end-to-end"Hello" → "olleH"
Reverse words in each lineFlips the letters of each word, keeping word order"Hello world" → "olleH dlrow"
Reverse word order (per line)Reverses the order of words, keeping letters intact"Hello world" → "world Hello"
Reverse line orderFlips the order of lines"A\nB\nC" → "C\nB\nA"
Reverse each line individuallyReverses the characters within each line"abc\ndef" → "cba\nfed"
Reverse by custom separatorSplits on a separator, reverses the chunks"a,b,c" with "," → "c,b,a"

Unicode, emojis, and Devanagari

Reversing text is trickier than it looks. JavaScript strings are stored as UTF-16 code units, so a naive split('').reverse().join('') breaks emojis and other characters outside the Basic Multilingual Plane.

This tool uses Unicode-aware reversal via Array.from(), so a single visible character — like 🌏 or a Devanagari conjunct — is treated as one unit. That means "नमस्ते 🌏" reverses cleanly rather than producing broken surrogate pairs.

Note: Devanagari text uses combining marks (matras) that attach to a base consonant. Reversing Devanagari character-by-character can detach those marks and produce visually broken text. For Devanagari, prefer the Reverse word order or Reverse line order modes, which preserve internal character structure.

Keeping sentence punctuation in place

When Keep sentence punctuation in place is enabled, terminal punctuation like ., !, ?, ,, ;, and : stays attached to the original word position instead of being flipped to the front of the reversed text.

For example, reversing "Hello, world!" with the option on gives "olleH, dlrow!" instead of "!dlrow ,olleH". This makes the reversed text look more natural and readable.

Creative uses for reversed text

  • Puzzles and riddles. Reverse words to create simple cipher puzzles.
  • Palindrome testing. A palindrome reads the same forwards and backwards — reverse it to check.
  • Stylised social posts. Use reversed text as an eye-catching effect in captions.
  • Data inspection. Reverse lines to see the last entry first.
  • Debugging. Reverse strings to inspect trailing characters you might otherwise miss.

Frequently asked questions

Is this text reverser free?

Yes. The tool is completely free, requires no account, and has no advertisements.

Is my text stored or uploaded?

No. All reversal and analysis happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Nothing is sent to a server.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Once the page loads, every feature works without an internet connection.

Can I reverse emojis and non-English text?

Yes. The reverser is Unicode-aware, so emojis and most scripts are handled correctly. For Devanagari, use the word-order or line-order modes to avoid detaching combining marks.

What does the "custom separator" mode do?

It splits your text on a separator you choose — a comma, a pipe, a space, or any string up to 20 characters — then reverses the order of those chunks. For example, "a,b,c" with "," becomes "c,b,a".

Can I download the reversed text?

Yes. Click Download to save the result as a .txt file.

What does "Swap" do?

It copies the reversed result back into the input box, so you can reverse it again or apply other tools.
